NEW 10-BALL LEAGUE STARTS WEDNESDAY 18 MARCH 2026

8 Teams

Due to College Billiards withdrawal from the SD Metro league, we have reluctantly reduced the number of teams for this coming season to 8, with 2 teams playing out of O'Billiard Café and 6 teams out of On Cue Billiards.

New Venue Planned for September

We are in talks with a new venue who we are hoping will come aboard once the new season ends in August. Details will be announced closer to the time.

ARE YOU READY FOR VEGAS?

BCA World Pool League Championships 2026 Moves to the Westgate

It's goodbye Rio, hello Westgate this year in Las Vegas and we're all eagerly looking forward to this exciting new venue.

PHIL CARRANZA WINS STOP #5 OF MOTHLIKE 9-BALL SERIES

Phil Carranza makes it two in a row

Top San Diego Metro BCA player Phil Carranza won a second consecutive stop in the Mothlike 9-Ball Series, defeating David Peterson in the final match which had a total of $1,300 at stake. Phil now powers into the lead of the Series, demoting team mate Luis Abarca to 2nd place. Way to go Phil, you’re playing some great pool!

LUIS ABARCA LEADS MOTHLIKE 9-BALL SERIES

Luis has been the most consistent performer over the first 4 stops of the Mothlike 9-Ball Series

Top San Diego Metro BCA player Luis  Abarca has consolidated his No.1 spot on the Mothlike 9-Ball Series Leaderboard. Becue Ambassador Luis narrowly lost to Mike Samiano in the Winners' Hot Seat match and to team mate Phil Carranza in the Losers' Hot Seat match but still tops the table after the first 4 Stops of the Series. Stop #5 is coming to On Cue Billiards on Saturday 30th August 2025.

PHIL CARRANZA WINS STOP #4 OF THE MOTHLIKE 9-BALL SERIES

Phil lost R1 to Luis Abarca then won 7 straight matches to take the title

Stop #4 of the Mothlike 9-Ball Series saw San Diego BCA stalwart, Phil Carranza take home the first prize of $700 beating Mike Samiano 7-6 on the final 9-ball concluding a great days' pool for the On Cue #1 team player. Phil was drawn against teammate Luis Abarca in Round 1 and suffered his only defeat of the day before building up his momentum and taking the next 7 matches in a row, including defeating Luis in the B-Side Hot Seat match. Phil now leaps to 2nd on the Leaderboard behind, you guessed it, Luis Abarca. The top 16 players after the November stop will feature in an added-cash Year-End Invitational event.

CATCHUSIFUCAN UNBEATEN 10-BALL CHAMPIONS!

Clean Sweep of 22 Wins & 0 Losses

The BCA San Diego Metro 10-Ball Division concluded on Wednesday 18th June 2025 and saw On Cue #5, now also known as "Catchusifucan" complete a clean sweep of 22 wins with no defeats.

Nayan Tamrakar secured MVP for most games won with 173, with JP from Shooting Stars 2nd on 155 and Winnie just a solitary rack behind in 3rd. Winnie's break & run on the final night of play allowed him to tie MVP for Table Runs with Shaun Murphy, both finishing with 20 and Nayan taking 3rd with 11. Winnie also took most shit-outs with 2.

Runner-up in the league went to 86'd with a very strong performance, finishing the season with 16 wins and 6 losses and A Few Bad Men took 3rd with 15W & 7L.

The Season-Ending 10-Ball tournament will be played next Sunday June 29th at On Cue Billiards. Sign-ups and practice from noon and play starts 1pm.

GOODFELLAS 8-BALL CHAMPIONS AGAIN!

ANOTHER FINE SEASON FOR KELLY'S

The BCA San Diego Metro 8-Ball Division was secured once more by Goodfellas, who had gone 37 weeks undefeated until the final match of the season when, due to unavoidable circumstances, they found themselves 2 players short against See You Next Thursday, who were able to claim forfeits for Goodfellas missing team members and become the only team to defeat them for two whole seasons!

Luis Abarca was MVP with a magnificent total of 118 wins, teammate Robert Howell came in 2nd with 117 and third place was also from Goodfells, Jared Pitts, with 114.

Runner-up in the league went to OB1 Homies with a very strong performance, finishing the season with 31 wins and 7 losses which pushed What's Shape? into 3rd spot with their tally of 30W & 8L.

2025 bca world pool league championships, las vegas, NV.

Fran Smith with just a few of the many San Diego pool players in action at the Rio Convention Center this month. Fran herself played matches in the Fairmatch 8-Ball Singles and the Ladies 8-Ball Singles and watched dozens more of her players, including up close with Shane Van Boening.

Mothlike live-streamed over 25 matches from Vegas and recorded several others when the internet connection was unavailable, edits of these matches coming soon to the Mothlike YouTube channel.

We'll have a full round-up of who cashed in Vegas soon, but wanted to say congratulations to Antuwan Anton for finishing 5-8th out of 431 players in the 8-Ball Singes Silver picking up $2,000 and to Jared Pitts, Rob Epple and Wayne Farnum II, all three finished 9-16th from 211 players in the 8-Ball Singles Platinum collecting $500.

I lost hill-hill in the final of the Second Chance 8-Ball, finishing 2nd from 60 players, picking up $1,000.

Fran added:

"I look forward to hearing how much cash you all won! I had such an awesome time and can't wait for next year!!!"

ON CUE #5 DOMINATE 10-BALL LEAGUE-ENDING TOURNAMENT

MURPHY & TOLENTINO JOINT WINNERS

The season-ending singles tournament took place last night, Wednesday 11/12/24 at On Cue Billiards and attracted 20 entrants vying for bragging rights over their team mates and rivals in the San Diego Metro 10-Ball league.

Shaun Murphy, from newly crowned Champions On Cue #5 came through the Winners' side and his team mate Winnie Tolentino fought through the One Loss side to reach the final, having defeated Phil Carranza (On Cue #1) into 3rd place and Mike Mann (also On Cue #5) into 4th. Strong performances by Christopher Moore (On Cue #2) and Danny Castaneda (College #1) saw them reach 5th & 6th place.

In the final, Winnie inflicted a first defeat of the evening on Shaun, however, since this is a true double-elimination format Winnie would need to beat Shaun twice. Alas, we were already past midnight and the club was late closing and so the team mates decided to share the glory and the prize money, making them both joint winners.

ON CUE #5 CROWNED CHAMPIONS ONCE AGAIN

The final week of the 10-Ball season saw O'Billiard #1 play host to On Cue #5 in what proved to be a relatively close-run match, trailing the Champions-Elect 3-4 before Shaun Murphy secured their 22-0 win record for a second consecutive season.

Rob Epple from 2nd-place finishers On Cue #1 made a most impressive debut to the BCA 10-Ball league claiming MVP for games won at 178, ahead of Nayan "Snax" (162) and Shaun (161). Rob also took MVP for table runs with a new record of 24, leading Shaun (17) with Nayan & Winnie Tolentino in joint 3rd (13) and finally Rob shared MVP for most shut-outs (2) with Bruce Edgar. Please refer to the 10-Ball standings page for full final results.

The season-ending 10-Ball tournament will take place on Wednesday 12/11 at On Cue. Practice from 6.30pm and play starts promptly at 7pm.

FRAN'S SURPRISE TRIP TO VEGAS

The players from the San Diego Metro Pool Leagues sprung a surprise on League Operator Fran Smith on Thursday 8/22, in appreciation of her decades of dedication running our local BCA leagues, by presenting her with a personalized tournament jacket along with a trip to Las Vegas for the 2025 BCA World Pool League Championships.

Here at metrobcapool.com we’d like to send our huge thanks to Fran for all she does for us, to Jesse Sturm for coming up with this initiative, to all those who attended the presentation and, of course, to everyone who donated so generously to help make this happen.

Fran herself added:

"I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in my 'surprise gifts' night at On Cue. I appreciate your support in my efforts to maintain a league with good rule for the benefit of serious players.

See you in Vegas !!!"
